is it possible for the camera itself to cause shitty images? i have a nikon n8008 and all of pictures (regardless of perfect exposure or not, and regardless of the lens!) creates real grainy and unsharp images. ive used a quantaray 28-90 3.5, nikkor 24-28 3.5, nikkor 50 1.8 and they all still end up with noisy pics. i shoot with iso 200.

some examples:

i dont see how the camera body could affect the picture. they are basically just shutter controlling mechanisms and AF mechanisms. other than that its not like digitals with differing processors and sensor technology.

tamron 17-50mm or canon 17-40L — help decide good ، tamron 17-50mm or canon 17-40L — help decide good

I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to these two choices.

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 non VC:

Pros:

– Less expensive ($450 new)
– f/2.8
– Sharp
– 6 year warranty

Cons:

– Hit or miss build quality?
– How much do I trust tamron’s warranty anyway?
– Noisy / iffy autofocus?
– Will lose value when used, and don’t really want to buy used because of warranty

Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L

Pros:

– Solid build quality
– Sharp
– Holds value like a boss
– Only ~500-600 used
– USM

Cons:

– Only f/4
– More limited range, although it’s not a huge deal

Right now I’m leaning towards the tamron but I’d like some more input. I’ve used the canon but not the tamron. I am open to other options but I don’t want to spend much more than $500 so the canon 17-55 f/2.8 is out of the question although I want it.

Viewing RAW Thumbnails in Windows Explorer….Sometimes. good ، Viewing RAW Thumbnails in Windows Explorer….Sometimes. good

Might be a noob question, but I bet I am not the only person who experiences this:

I shoot in RAW and it uploads as a .NEF file when I import to my laptop. Once I open in Photoshop the file becomes one .NEF, one .XMP and a JPEG (if I save it).

I usually hit the Windows Start button when I go to a folder to locate a photo. I have some folders where I can view all three versions of a file

There are other folders where I can’t view the .NEF thumbnail and I have to open Photoshop or Picasa to see what’s in the folder

Anybody know why this happens? The folder properties have all my photo folders as as Pictures/Video folders, but it’s hit or miss as to whether I can see the thumbnails or not.

The Switch good ، The Switch good

So I see a lot of switching of major brands lately in what we use on a daily basis. Many of us lifetime users of one particular brand and jumped ship for one reason or another to ride the other.

What have you switched to and why?

There was no social influence really in my decision to go from many years of Canon to Nikon. There were a number of factors however. The AF system being a major one. Second build quality and ergonomics and third – options. Then short term resale value. It was time to go while the gettin’ was still decent.

I basically did not feel practicality in owning a Ford Mustang with 1,000hp (5D2) when I wanted an AMG Mercedes with 500 (D3s)

So tell me your story.

I’m looking at renting a lens for my daughters birthday. I have a 17-40 f/4L, but am thinking need something like a 1.2 or a 1.4. Can’t decide on the focal length though.

In addition to the iLife and iWork apps, Apple is also selling its Aperture 3 photography software as a Mac App Store download for only $80. The boxed version cost $199.
